The SFL has adopted the US Soccer and VYSA age groups which are based on birth year. All age groups are normally broken down into two divisions assuming that we have enough teams to form divisions. Neither of these divisions is based on age. Rather they are based on skill level with the more competitive teams being placed in the upper divisions. The SFL Club Representative is responsible for determining the proper division for each of their teams in consultation with the appropriate SFL Age Group Commissioner. The following shows the birth year(s) that apply to a given age group.

Important: The SFL recommends that players only play in their age group, e.g., U14 age players play in the SFL’s U14 age group, U15 age players play in the SFL’s U16 age group, etc. Based on club requests, the SFL allows players to “play up” with the applicable club’s approval within the above constraints. For example, a club may allow a player with a U13 birth date to play on an U14 team but not on an Under 16 team.
